Why you can now own your journal system

Most clinics and residential facilities rent their journal system. You pay by the month, and in return the vendor keeps everything running. That sounds fair — right up until the day the price goes up, or the field you've been asking about for two years still hasn't arrived.

At Validi, we've started offering something different: you can own your journal system. Here's why that has become possible at all — and why we believe it's the model that wins.

Why has everyone always rented?

Because it was the only realistic option. Building and maintaining software took a permanent team of developers, and that is far too expensive for a clinic with twelve employees. So you rented from a vendor who split the bill across many customers.

But that model has a price that never appears on the invoice: the vendor decides what the system costs, when your requests get built — and how painful it becomes to leave if you ever want to. Your most important working tool is effectively on borrowed time.

What has changed?

Artificial intelligence has made changes to software dramatically cheaper and faster. Work that used to take weeks at the vendor's development department can now often be built in days. And most importantly: it can be built by someone other than the vendor. Your own IT department, or a local IT consultant, can — with AI as an assistant — add the field, the report or the workflow you're missing.

There's just one condition: you have to be allowed to touch the system. A rented system is locked territory — you may neither see nor change anything. If you own it, it's yours, and you decide.

That is why we believe owned software is the future: the technical reason for renting is disappearing, and what remains is only the lock-in.

What it looks like in practice

You choose how much you want to own — and you can move one step at a time:

• Shared hosting: We host, you work. DKK 199 per month per clinic plus DKK 96 per employee. No lock-in, and your data can always be exported — complete and free of charge.
• Your own server: We build your own installation at a fixed price agreed in advance, and maintain it for a monthly subscription you can cancel. If you cancel, everything is handed over: the server, the code, the data and the documentation.
• Self-hosted: Your own IT takes over and runs — and further develops — the system itself. DKK 0 per month to us, and you can always come back.

All prices are public at validi.eu/en/ownership. None of them require a meeting.

What does it mean in your everyday work?

Not much — and that's the point. You still just log in and work, and we still take care of security, backups and the ongoing legal updates for as long as you want us to. The difference is the balance of power: if you're missing something, your request doesn't have to queue behind a hundred other customers'. And if we one day stop being the right partner for you, you take the system with you instead of starting over.

One honest footnote belongs here: if you take over operations yourself, there are agreements you'll need to sign in your own name — Medicin.dk and SMS delivery, for example — and the ongoing updates from us stop. All of it is described openly on the ownership page, because an ownership promise without that section wouldn't be honest.
